Ashwoods Books and Records
There are loads of secondhand compact disc and record shops concentrated in this strip, along the upper end of Pitt Street heading towards Central, but Ashwoods is the best, and best-known. Ashwood's shelves bulge with hard-to-find vinyl, obscure compact discs, and rare tapes and recordings. Collectors and music lovers will be in heaven. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and since stock is changing regularly is can be worth paying this place a few visits for the chance of picking up a real piece of rock memorabilia.

Berkelouw Book Sellers
A well established Antiquarian Bookshop, Berkelouw has been operating as booksellers since 1812. A King Street institution, the Cornstalk Bookshop is well known for its towering shelves of books spanning all genres and subject matters (horror, crime, romance, and a huge range of non-fiction). There are also special AUD1 bins where you can find some real treasures, but it may take some hunting to unearth them. Winter or summer, Fireside is a cosy place to get away from it all and curl up with a good book or two or three ... . Glenn A Baker's Timewarp
Established in 1988 by renowned rock historian, researcher, writer, "friend to the stars" and radio and television presenter, Glenn A Baker, Timewarp specialises in pop and rock music from the 50s to present. Stocking a large range of records (LPs & 7" singles), compact discs, books, magazines and memorabilia, including originals and re-issues, both second-hand and new, Timewarp have their own "hunter" on staff to track down rare and hard-to-find recordings. Gould's Book Arcade
Even before its cinematic debut in the film "Erskineville Kings", Gould's was arguably Newtown's best known secondhand bookshop, with floor to ceiling shelves and big discount bins full of unsorted treasures just waiting to be discovered. A lot of genre fiction finds its way into Gould's (Horror and Sci-Fi especially), but you will also find some great traditional and contemporary classics. There is also a big newstand at the front of the store, directly in front of Mr Gould's mantle.

Listen Up Records
From dance to breaks, Listen up Records is the local Darlinghurst secondhand record shop. Their secondhand section is huge. As well as new and old vinyl they also sell CDs. They buy a lot of records and are renowned for giving people good prices for pre-loved records. Staff are well-informed and happy to help you find what you are looking for. New stock comes in all the time so it is worth making a few trips. After browsing check out the excellent eateries on nearby Victoria Street, Darlinghurst.

Unsound
Specialist in R'n'B, hip-hop, Reggae, Jazz and House, this store is well stocked. They have a quite good selection of second hand CDs and vinyl and it is worth making a few trips to check the ever-changing stock. The owner goes overseas regularly to buy both new and secondhand tunes. The staff Leo and Daniel (owner) are very knowledgeable and their selection is always of very good quality. They are always on hand to offer help and advice on your purchases.

Warped Records
Opened in 1982, this shop previously specialised in buying and selling secondhand records. They still do this, but the focus has now moved to CDs in a huge variety of music types. You will find a good cross section of titles available but in particular, new and second hand hip-hop, house, jazz, soul and blues. Stock is constantly changing so it is worth paying this place several visits. They also sell tickets for some of the hottest dance parties in the city.

The name of the game here is designer labels, but at prices everyone can afford. Synonymous with the quality you would expect to find in Double Bay, here you will find high quality fashions at great prices. It is a name that sticks in your head and believe it or not so will the clothes. Mister Stinky stocks a vast range of second hand and homemade clothing. Alan Landis Antiques
Over the past 25 years, Alan Landis has built up an excellent reputation for his knowledge of English ceramics and Australiana. Minimalists beware! This is the closest thing to an Arabian love nest you will find in Bondi. All the merchandise in this well stocked, alluring store seems to travel from the Middle East and Asia. After four years, during which they established a reputation as Sydney's premier retro design source, Chee Soon & Fitzgerald have decided to diversify. Janet Niven
Located in the upmarket, Queens Court complex, Janet Niven has long attracted attention for her beautiful window displays and specialist knowledge. This shop focuses mainly upon the 18th and 19th century English period, and carries small collectable antiques, miniatures, silhouettes, samplers, needlework pictures, shawls and other textiles, porcelain, and Georgian and country furniture. Josef Lebovic Gallery
One of Sydney's most colourful art identities, Josef Lebovic has specialised in prints, drawings, photographs and other works on paper since 1977. He also mounts regular exhibitions and produces high quality catalogues.
