Париж
It all began around 1890 when ragmen and ironmongers sold the objects they had hooked up in tips and bins of the wealthiest areas of Paris. In 1891, all pedlars setting up their stands on the pavements of Avenue Michelet in Saint-Ouen were required to have a license allowing them to sell their goods. A few years later, the secondhand furniture dealers joined them. Little by little restaurant owners and craftsmen also settled in, as well as bistrots that sold "shots of liquor" to warm you up on cold winter mornings.
