Brisbane Antique Centre
Dealing since 1977, this collection of high quality antique furniture, jewellery and other treasures is displayed in an old Art Deco building that was once a furniture factory, built in 1927.
Two floors house 25 or so dealers, with a toy room for the children (smart move in an antique store), and a television for Dad who has been dragged along by Mum! "We deal in the entire spectrum of human endeavour" is their very apt motto, so you will have to go see for yourself, but take your "bursting" wallet with you!

Vincent's
Foresters' Hall is a heritage building found among the trendy cafes and restaurants of the most "renovated" suburb of Brisbane, Paddington, where Vincent displays his goods.
This old hall has the right character, however, to display predominantly retro and vintage clothing. The retro furniture also looks "at home" here; some of the pieces definitely have character!
Old books, records (remember them?) and eclectic and interesting collectables complete the picture. Search to find that particular piece you need; two carved timber wardrobes were excellent examples of "retro antique"--prices are very reasonable--50 cents to AUD300.

If you head on over to the showroom and check out the large range of televisions, videos, stereos, washers, dryers, fridges and telephones, you are sure to find a bargain, and there are a number of package deals available to suit your lifestyle.

The store always has something of interest, with a large range of popular Australian designer labels, as well as some international ones. Generally, the stock is of good quality, but as in all pre-loved clothing stores, one must keep an eye out for hidden faults.
The staff are always keen to help and what you cannot find one week you are likely to discover the next.

One Stop Antiques
For silky-oak furniture this two-roomed shop is a must to visit. Once the last staging station before the town of Brisbane for the Cobb & Co coaches, (returning gold diggers from the Gympie gold fields), it has displayed good value furniture since 1988.
Tables, dressers and cupboards abound, against a backdrop of a large wall hanging tarpa from Tonga, made from mulberry leaves, the ethnic colours setting off the patina of the silky-oak pieces.
You can have your furniture needs custom made here, in silky oak, maple and cedar; and they do expert restorations.

There are some treasures among the "trash" though; an exquisite baby grand piano, built in the 1860s, with an intricate walnut veneer finish sits proudly among the bric-a-brac.
Beds, wardrobes, china and glassware all vie for your attention; and Robert will come to your house to buy.

Smith Brothers
Since 1917 the Smith Brothers, now in this lovely old shop with leadlight front windows, have served collectors who search for interesting pieces.
A delightful timber ship with two red funnels sits in pride of place in the window to greet you.
Old equipment (e.g. a gold sluicing machine) rests nonchalantly among many innovative choices for collections of almost any type. How about some old Australian food safes? They have huge ones that must have fed 100 shearers on a sheep station!
They buy and sell, pick-up and deliver, and thoroughly enjoy old wares.

China, fine china and more china! Here you will find 88 china cabinets to search through to find that special piece. Occasionally a display of kerosene lamps will break the line of cabinets, but for furniture, downstairs you go.
This floor seems to specialise in bedroom dressing-tables, dressers and cupboards. Some are really good value Georgian pieces. The walls have many fine paintings and prints.
A gathering of quaint antique suitcases makes its point--"look at us" they seem to say.
A free valuation Sunday occurs frequently.

Apart from an ever-changing stock of jewellery, musical instruments, watches and sporting goods, the store keeps a very good selection of second-hand CDs. The only regret is that someone had to part with them in the first place!

Eureka Street
The wonderful patina of old timber literally glows at you in these two large rooms of country style furniture.
The Eureka Stockade miners' uprising in Ballarat, Victoria was in 1854, and since 1987, "Eureka Street" has upheld a tradition of using Australian and imported recycled timber, along with "subtly aged" new local pine to craft tables, chairs and dressers in the style of that time.
Using predominantly the "Baltic stain" finish on most of their pieces, there are also some entertainment units and some leather lounges (new) to select.
The colour brochure can help you choose at your leisure.

This building was once a hardware shop, but now displays very exclusive furniture for those with large rooms. The shop specialises in 18th and early 19th century English furniture, the high ceiling providing plenty of space to display tall pieces.
Come with a healthy bank balance to buy here, as prices start in the thousands and continue to the hundreds of thousands.
However the intricately ornate dressers, wardrobes, bookcases and many superb sets of tables and chairs are worth a lengthy browse. The dark blue walls and black ceiling provide a peaceful ambience to enjoy perusing.

What a great shop for the wicked witch to admire herself! Mirrors to delight everyone.

The antique frames range from ornate to stunningly simple, or simply stunning. Convex, or "butler" mirrors (enabling the butler to see around corners) are also available.
Recycled timber, gilt and hand painted designs on the frames allow you plenty of choice.
